I always wanted to know what snails tasted like, I mean those slugs that crawls around your garden, cooked and served on a plate. Well there are sea snails but I don’t think they are the same. So I went on a search for a French restaurant that specialises in snails and The Little Snails popped on the radar. Obviously the name says it all.

Escargot - Dozen snails, marinated with fresh herbs, court bouillon, oven baked in garlic butter 12/20 $19.50

Something I should try again. When I has this, it tasted like buttered rubber. Chewy and had no taste. I think this dish is something that takes times to enjoy, not something a person with no experience with snails can say wow. Same story when I had my first Miso Soup, I had to block my nose to enjoy the taste cause the smell was too strong.

Pate Malson - Homemade duck liver pate flavoured with port and brandy served with Melba toast 15/20 $19.50

The first bite would taste like a gourmet pork roll. The pate has a strong flavour. Infact, I took some of the pate and spread it on the snail, that tasted better.

Coquillies Saint Jacques Mornay - Scallops, poached in court bouillon, with mornay sauced, served on saffron rice. 15/20 $19.50

Loved how the scallops were big scallops. Big thumbs up!. The saffron rice might be too fulling and can destroy your main but that depends how hungry you are.

Terrine of smoked salmon with lemon aioli and vinaigrette dressed baby rocked and toasted baguette 14/20 $19.50

Taste like a bigger version of cottage cheese with smoked salmon on a biscuit.

Rack of Lamb with roasted pumpkin puree, buttered french beans and shiraz pan jus 15/20 $29.50

You can ever go wrong with lamb. It was a tasty rack of lamb.

Seafood Plate of grilled fish, fried prawns, and calamari, soft shell crab and steamed mussels with mesclum salad 12/20 $29.50

Not something you would order at a french restaurant but this would be better than having a seafood platter at the Sydney Fish Market.

Fillet of Barramundi grilled with puree of Jerusalem artichokes and a capers and chrevril beurre blanc 14/20 $29.50

Strong flavoured sauce makes a good fish fillet dish. If you order this, make sure you don’t order the scallops as the sauce might taste too similar.

Vanilla crepes with mascarpone, strawberry compote and chocolate sauce 14/20 $13.50

Chocolate Mud Cake, filled in with dark Belgium chocolate ganache 14/20 $13.50

Classic Creme Caramel 15/20 $13.50

Kahlua infused Chocolate mousse 15/20 $13.50

First time Snail eaters, this would be a good restaurant to try them, unless you’re in france, its better off trying them there. I recommend having the Scallops or the smoked salmon for entree, Rack of Lamb or Duck (not reviewed), and Classic Creme caramel to finish it off. If you’ve tired something different, let me know what you had and what the verdict would be.
